The Jungle (Dover Thrift Editions)
So this book was given to me as a reading assignment for my history class, but I think it was an overall okay book. The book, based in the 1900's, is about thehorrors of the Meat-packing industry and the effect socialism had on political life. Although a bit hard to understand at some points, the book had lots of great description, if not slightly disturbing, when looking at the conditions of the factories and the deplorable way the poor lived. The characters were very realistically written, meaning to represent how many immigrants and there families did survive during that time, and what they had to go through. The book got really depressing at some parts because of the tragic events that this family went through, as well as the resources they had to live off of. Even though it was a required reading book, I have to say that it was probably one of the better books I have read for school.
